Valentia Island is located off the southwest coast of Ireland, in County Kerry. It sits along the scenic Ring of Kerry, about 70 km from Killarney and approximately a 3-hour drive from Dublin.

The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge at Portmagee, making it easily accessible by car. Alternatively, you can take a short ferry ride from Reenard Point, especially during the summer months.

How to reach Valentia Island

By Driving

To reach Valentia Island by car, follow the N70 road from Killarney, which will take you through the picturesque Ring of Kerry.

Continue to Cahersiveen, then take the R565 toward Portmagee, where a bridge connects the mainland to the island. The drive is scenic and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours from Killarney, offering stunning views along the way.

By Ferry

You can opt for a short ferry ride from Reenard Point, near Cahersiveen, to Knightstown on Valentia Island during the summer. The ferry runs regularly, especially during peak tourist seasons, and takes around 10 minutes. It’s a lovely way to enjoy the coastal views while arriving at the island.
