Travel Guide to Diamond Hill

Location

Diamond Hill is located in Connemara National Park in County Galway. Diamond Hill is part of the Twelve Bens mountain range in Connemara. Below I put a Google Map link for your reference.

Parking

The main parking space is at the Connemara National Park Visitor Centre. The parking space is available for free, however, overnight stays or camping is not allowed. During summer months this place might be crowded, so, you should plan it ahead to find a space for your parking.

The Visitor Centre at Diamond Hill offers you a variety of facilities to make sure you have a perfect and comfortable visit. Free toilet facilities and a tea room is available that serves tea, coffee, and light refreshments.

It also provides you with a fantastic exhibition on the Connemara landscape and a 15-minute film about the National Park.

Diamond Hill Loop Walk & Trails

Diamond Hill offers you two primary hiking routes, the Lower Diamond Hill Hike (Walk) and the Upper Diamond Hill Hike. But there are also other trails that you can try. In fact, based on your hiking abilities you can choose a trail suitable for you and enjoy.

Ellis Wood Nature Trail (0.5km)

Ellis Wood Nature Trail is the small green part that you can see on the picture above. This trail is considered an easy hike that starts and ends at the Connemara National Park Visitor Centre. It is best for a stroll within the park and watching the flora and fauna of the region. Although finishing this trail is shorter and easier than other ones, the attractions along your way are so rewarding.

This trail takes around 15 minutes to complete.

Diamond Hill Loop Walk & Trails

Scruffaunboy Walk (1.5km)

Scruffaunboy Walk is the yellow part that you can discover on the picture. This trail offers you a moderate hiking experience with beautiful landscapes. The lines are all marked so you can easily follow the trail without being worried about getting lost. This trail is longer than Ellis Wood Nature Trail, however, a shorter option than Lower and Upper Diamond Hill Walk for those looking to explore the area.

This trail takes around 30 minutes to complete.

Lower Diamond Hill Walk (3km)

Lower Diamond Hill Walk is the blue path on the picture. This trail is more challenging than the previous ones, however, the trail will be accessible and hiking is considered easy to moderate. It gives you mesmerizing views of Connemara and surrounds you with beautiful landscapes.

This trail takes almost 1 to 2 hours to complete.

Upper Diamond Hill Walk (3.7km)

Upper Diamond Hill Walk is the red part that you can see in the picture. This trail will be the most challenging part of Diamond Hill Hike, however, if you want to have panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Twelve Bens, Tully Mountain, and even Kylemore Abbey you should give it a try.

This trail takes about 2-3 hours to complete.
