Fanad Lighthouse was built in 1817 in response to the sinking of a Royal Navy warship, in 1811. Some years after the tragedy that resulted in the loss of over 250 lives, Fanad Lighthouse was built due to easier navigational aid and guidance for ships.
Over the years it went through different changes and now the lighthouse has become an iconic landmark that attracts a lot of people every year.
